Wuthering Waves: free to play.Sponsored link Play free

Wuthering Waves lists 150 GB of free storage as its minimum on Steam, the largest minimum among the 13 free PC games in our requirements comparison. The same page changes its storage-type wording between the two tiers, and that detail matters more than the number. As read on October 4, 2026 (UTC). Not benchmarked.

The minimum asks for 16 GB of RAM and a GTX 1060-class GPU, and the recommended tier doubles the RAM to 32 GB.

The HDD versus SSD wording

The listing says "HDD Supported, SSD Recommended." under minimum and "SSD Required." under recommended. Read literally, a hard drive is within the listed minimum, while the recommended tier expects an SSD. The listing does not say what changes for a player on a hard drive, such as longer load times, and we did not test it.

Only 5 of the 13 listings in the comparison mention an SSD at all: Marvel Rivals, Wuthering Waves, Zenless Zone Zero, Where Winds Meet, STALZONE. Wuthering Waves is the only one that moves from "recommended" to "required" between its two tiers.

What the numbers imply

150 GB is a drive-planning problem before it is a performance problem. A 256 GB drive with an operating system and other games on it may not have 150 GB free. The listing gives the same storage figure for both tiers, so there is no smaller footprint for lower settings.

The RAM line is the second filter. 4 games in the comparison list 16 GB as the minimum, and only 3 list 32 GB as recommended: NTE: Neverness to Everness, Wuthering Waves, Where Winds Meet.

How it compares with the other big games

Three free action RPGs list a minimum of 100 GB or more, and Wuthering Waves is the largest. The figures below come from each Steam page on October 4, 2026 (UTC).

Game Minimum storage Minimum RAM Recommended RAM Storage note
Wuthering Waves 150 GB 16 GB RAM 32 GB RAM SSD Required.
Where Winds Meet 130 GB 16 GB RAM 32 GB RAM Steam recommends an SSD drive for a better experience.
NTE: Neverness to Everness 110 GB 16 GB RAM 32 GB RAM none listed

Where Winds Meet lists a step up to 200 GB at recommended, while Wuthering Waves keeps 150 GB at both tiers. If drive space is your constraint, the minimum is the figure to plan around.

Check your PC first

  1. Free space. Settings, System, Storage: confirm 150 GB free on the drive you will use, then add a margin for updates.
  2. Drive type. In Task Manager, Performance tab, each drive shows as HDD or SSD. The listing recommends an SSD, and requires one for the recommended tier.
  3. RAM and GPU. Task Manager, Performance: at least 16 GB of memory and a GPU at or above the GTX 1060 / RX 570 class named in the minimum.

Bottom line

On paper Wuthering Waves can run from a hard drive, but the listing leans toward an SSD and its storage need is the biggest in our set. If you have to choose which drive gets 150 GB, choose the SSD. Not benchmarked.
