War Thunder's Steam listing asks for 4 GB of RAM at minimum, tied with Project Entropy among the lightest memory floors GamiPrime has recorded in this Hardware cluster, but the recommended tier lists 16 GB, a fourfold jump rather than the doubling most other tracked titles show between their two tiers. Storage moves less sharply, from 70 GB to 95 GB. The listing also carries separate, fully populated minimum and recommended blocks for Mac and for Linux, alongside Windows; Albion Online is the only other title GamiPrime tracks in this cluster with the same three-platform structure, though its own listing leaves several storage cells blank where War Thunder's does not. Specs below are from War Thunder's Steam store page as read on October 16, 2026 (UTC). Not benchmarked.

GamiPrime has also published a separate verdict on whether War Thunder is worth playing, built from its Steam rating and review volume, and a reception report that splits those reviews by language. This article covers neither: it is a spec-table read only, across all three platforms the listing supports.

RAM is where the two Windows tiers actually separate: 4 GB at minimum, 16 GB at recommended, a fourfold increase. Storage moves on a shallower slope, from 70 GB to 95 GB.

What the numbers imply

The RAM floor is among the lightest in the cluster, but the jump to recommended is tied for the steepest. At 4 GB, War Thunder's Windows minimum ties Project Entropy and STALZONE, with only MU: Dark Epoch (1 GB) and Infinity Kingdom (2 GB) listing less, among the 13 games in GamiPrime's free PC games system requirements roundup, read October 4, 2026. Most games in that comparison double their RAM figure between minimum and recommended, or hold it flat, the way Once Human doubles from 8 GB to 16 GB and Zenless Zone Zero keeps 8 GB on both tiers. War Thunder's jump from 4 GB to 16 GB is a fourfold increase, tied with Infinity Kingdom (2 GB to 8 GB) for the widest spread between tiers GamiPrime has recorded for this line in the cluster.

Storage sits in the upper-middle of the set, and the two tiers are close together. The 70 GB minimum ties Arena Breakout: Infinite and Marvel Rivals for a mid-pack figure, well below Wuthering Waves (150 GB) or NTE: Neverness to Everness (110 GB), and above lighter titles like STALZONE (50 GB) or Project Entropy (8 GB). The recommended tier adds 25 GB, landing at 95 GB, a smaller gap than the zero-to-wide spread some other listings in this cluster show; it is not a zero-gap listing like Once Human's flat 100 GB, but the two tiers are closer together than Where Winds Meet's 70 GB spread between its own minimum and recommended.

DirectX changes version between tiers, not just hardware. The minimum lists DirectX 11, the recommended lists DirectX 12, the same pattern Once Human's listing shows and Zenless Zone Zero's does not. We did not check every Steam page in the wider catalog for this line, so this is reported only for the titles this cluster's satellites and pillar already cover.

The minimum tier also lists SteamVR support, with a keyboard or gamepad required. No other requirement line on this listing names a VR component, and the recommended tier does not repeat it.

Mac and Linux: a second three-platform listing in this cluster

War Thunder's Steam page lists separate, fully populated minimum and recommended specs for Mac and for Linux, not just Windows. Among the games GamiPrime tracks in this Hardware cluster, Albion Online is the only other title with all three platform blocks present; every other tracked title is Windows-only on Steam. The two listings are not alike once you read the actual cells: War Thunder's Mac and Linux blocks are fully populated at both tiers (OS, processor, memory, graphics and storage all given), while Albion Online's three tables leave several storage cells blank, including both Mac tiers and the Windows recommended tier. The figures below were read live from the same Steam listing on October 16, 2026 (UTC), since the dated data snapshot this article otherwise reuses carried only the Windows block.

Storage is identical across all three platforms at both tiers: 70 GB minimum, 95 GB recommended, the same figures as the Windows block above. RAM is where the platforms diverge. Linux's minimum matches Windows at 4 GB, but Mac's minimum asks for 6 GB, a higher floor than either of the other two platforms. At the recommended tier the gap widens the other way: Mac asks for 8 GB, while Windows and Linux both list 16 GB. Mac also requires Metal support and specifically excludes Intel Xeon processors at both tiers, a restriction neither the Windows nor the Linux block states. Linux requires Vulkan support and "recent" proprietary GPU drivers, worded as "not older than 6 months" on the minimum tier, the only requirement line on any of the three platform blocks with that kind of time limit attached.

GamiPrime has not re-checked every tracked title's platform flags on the same day as this article, so the comparison above against Albion Online's listing is the one direct, same-day read this article makes; it is not a claim about every Steam listing GamiPrime covers across other categories.

Check your PC first

  1. Confirm your platform's block. Windows, Mac and Linux list different RAM and storage-adjacent requirements (notably RAM: 4 GB Windows minimum, 6 GB Mac minimum, 4 GB Linux minimum). Read the table for the operating system you actually run, not the Windows figures by default.
  2. RAM, with the jump in mind. Task Manager (Windows), Activity Monitor (Mac) or your distribution's system monitor (Linux): 4 GB clears the Windows or Linux minimum; Mac's minimum needs 6 GB. Recommended tiers need 16 GB on Windows and Linux, 8 GB on Mac.
  3. Free storage. 70 GB free clears the minimum on every platform listed; 95 GB clears recommended on every platform listed. The figure does not change between Windows, Mac and Linux, so there is one number to check regardless of which you run.

Bottom line

War Thunder's Windows minimum is one of the lightest RAM floors in GamiPrime's Hardware cluster, but the climb to the recommended tier is the steepest the cluster has shown, a fourfold jump rather than a doubling. Storage asks for a mid-pack 70 GB, growing by only 25 GB at recommended. The listing's reach past Windows, with fully specified Mac and Linux blocks, puts it alongside Albion Online as the only two tracked titles with all three platforms filled in, though War Thunder's three tables carry no blank cells where Albion Online's do. That is a floor, not a promise. Not benchmarked.

Frequently asked questions

How many GB is War Thunder on PC?

70 GB at the Windows minimum and 95 GB at the recommended tier, per the Steam listing re-read November 4, 2026. Mac and Linux have their own figures in the tables above. These are the listed storage figures, not a measured size on disk.

What are the minimum system requirements for War Thunder on PC?

On Windows, Steam lists Windows 10 (64-bit), a dual-core 2.2 GHz processor, 4 GB RAM, a DirectX 11 level card such as the AMD Radeon 77XX or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660, and 70 GB of storage. Mac and Linux have their own separate minimum blocks, listed above, with different RAM figures.

Does War Thunder run on Mac and Linux?

Yes. War Thunder's Steam listing includes separate, fully populated minimum and recommended specification blocks for Mac and for Linux, in addition to Windows. Albion Online is the only other title GamiPrime tracks in this Hardware cluster with all three platforms listed, though several of its storage cells are left blank where War Thunder's are not.

How much RAM does War Thunder need?

It depends on platform and tier. The Windows and Linux minimums list 4 GB RAM; the Mac minimum lists 6 GB. At the recommended tier, Windows and Linux both list 16 GB, while Mac lists 8 GB.
